چکیده

Despite recent advances in acute stroke management, many stroke patients suffer from long-term disability. Most stroke patients regain their function partially or fully during the first 3 to 6 months depending on many factors ; pre-stroke, stroke and post-stroke factors. Brain plasticity plays a major role during stroke recovery, and motor-relearning and brain plasticity shares the common mechanism. Successful neurorehabilitation is to drive beneficial plastic change and therefore to gain functional recovery. In this brief review, we will discuss mechanisms of brain plasticity engaged in stroke recovery and recent advanced management strategies for stroke recovery. ( Jpn J Rehabil Med 2015;52:63.67 )

Validity of Modified Ashworth Scale as a Measure of Wrist Spasticity in Stroke Patients

Objectives: There are some controversies about the value of modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) for assessing spasticity. The goal of this study was to investigate if there is any correlation between scores obtained from MAS for wrist spasticity and electrophysiological recordings as the objective measure of spasticity. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 34 stroke patients were employed. Wris...

Combinations of stroke neurorehabilitation to facilitate motor recovery: perspectives on Hebbian plasticity and homeostatic metaplasticity

Motor recovery after stroke involves developing new neural connections, acquiring new functions, and compensating for impairments. These processes are related to neural plasticity. Various novel stroke rehabilitation techniques based on basic science and clinical studies of neural plasticity have been developed to aid motor recovery. Current research aims to determine whether using combinations...

Old benefit as much as young patients with stroke from high-intensity neurorehabilitation: cohort analysis

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE In current clinical practice, old patients with stroke are less frequently admitted to neurorehabilitation units following acute care than younger patients based on an assumption that old age negatively impacts the benefit obtained from high-intensity neurorehabilitation. Our objective was to test this assumption empirically in a large sample of patients with stroke. ...

The top 100 cited neurorehabilitation papers.

BACKGROUND Neurorehabilitation covers a large range of disorders, assessment approaches and treatment methods. There have been previous citation analyses of rehabilitation and of its subfields. However, there has never been a comprehensive citation analysis in neurorehabilitation. OBJECTIVE The present study reports findings from a citation analysis of the top 100 most cited neurorehabilitati...
